Oilers Back On Track For The Stanley Cup

Edmonton Oilers and the Carolina Hurricanes are disputing the series to win the Stanley Cup. The first two games were at Carolina, team that won both matches. The third game was last Saturday June 10, 2006 and it was won by the Oilers.

Oilers’ goaltender Jussi Markkanen who hadn’t seen game action since March, gave his best along with the team’s defense players to avoid Carolina Hurricanes to score. Markkanen finished last Saturday night with 24 stops. Final result was 2 – 1 that represented not just a victory for the Oilers but the return to the competition for the Stanley Cup after two loses.

As Oilers’ head coach Craig MacTavish affirmed, his team spent a lot of time in the Hurricanes’ zone during the first half of the game, also said they had more players in the right position and above the puck than Carolina. The Oilers blocked 13 shots on Saturday, after managing only seven in Game 2. Captain Jason Smith led the way with four.
